SAT Prep Classes & Crash Course

6-Session
SAT Class
(12 hours)

Our most popular SAT format, CPE’s 6-Session class spans five to six weeks before each exam. In class, students learn both strategies and the specific content covered on the NEW DIGITAL SAT. Between classes, they complete five full-length, authentic SATs and continuously review all material to date, as mapped out on daily check-list style assignment sheets.

9-Session SAT Class
(18 hours)

Includes all of the 6-session classes and adds three more, scheduled as the class unfolds to best cater to the needs and learning styles of the particular participants. Fewer students per class allows for even more personal attention and focus on individual concerns, and students complete eight full-length practice tests.  The extra time the 9-Session format affords for instruction, practice, and review reduces anxiety about encountering unfamiliar problems on exam day.

3-Session SAT Crash Course
(6 hours)

Meets for three two-hour sessions spaced out over two to three weeks before each SAT. Class one is all about exam format, basic approach to each section, and specific NEW DIGITAL SAT strategies,  Students then complete two full-length exams to go over during the second and third class meetings. Great for those crunched for time and well as second-timers.

CPE offers three different length prep classes for every SAT exam date, all of which cover BOTH required sections—Reading & Writing and Math. They differ only in number of meetings, cost, and level of depth that the different total number of teaching and learning hours allow. We also offer one dedicated math class for every SAT exam date. All classes last two hours and have an an average of four to six students, and never more than 15. Small class sizes afford students the kind of close personal attention given in private tutoring sessions, with the added pedagogical benefits that only small classes can provide. Participants can choose to take any CPE class in person (in West Hartford, CT) or via Zoom. All classes are video recorded and uploaded to our YouTube channel immediately following each one in case of absence or for on-demand review.

In class, students receive CPE’s copyrighted study and time-management tools©, developed and refined over years of experience. In addition to subject matter covered on the SAT, the materials focus on strategies, including psychological and other mental factors. Also of paramount importance, students practice using only official College Board SAT questions and authentic practice tests fromThe Official SAT Study Guide (2020 ed.) and Kahn Academy.

CPE’s approach emphasizes that for each of the five sections, students absorb and practice three score-raising bodies of specific knowledge:

    1. Useful Facts & Basic Overall Approach
    2. Global Strategies Specific to that Section
    3. Common Problem Types and Corresponding Problem-Solving Strategies

Choosing and Registering for an SAT Class

Step 1 – Start by selecting an SAT exam date and registering for it CollegeBoard.com —we’re happy to talk with you about your current plan (if you have one or if have any qualms about it), or, for those new to the college admissions game, to schedule a one-hour Standardized Test Strategy Consultation with Dr. Yo 1) to discuss all the standardized test options available, 2) to strategize about which one(s), and when, might be best for you, and 3) to formulate an individual standardized testing plan for your entire college admissions process.

Step 2 – Choose a 3-, 6-, or 9-Session SAT Prep Class and/or our 4-Session dedicated math class from our Class Dates & Registration page, which you’ll find organized chronologically by exam date.

Step 3 – Purchase the College Board’s The Digital SAT Study Guide, which is the only “homework” due for the first class. This book contains eight official full-length SATs, which is enough for any of our classes.

What our students and parents say:

“Thank you for getting my girls into the groove for the SAT’s. As always you did a great job with the material, but more important, you keep on showing all your students that learning can be fun and even having a tutor can be a blast.”
-Dr. Steve Y, parent

“We’re still in a celebratory mood at the Lewis household.  I can’t thank you enough for working with Caroline.  In addition to knowing how to tutor her to do the best she possibly could, you motivated her to study and made the classes fun…. Many thanks and I only wish you were here to witness Caroline’s reaction when she saw her scores.
-Janet Lewis, parent

“I just want to let you know that your class really helped me and I felt much more comfortable than I thought I’d feel.  The essay wound up being the same exact essay as some of the sample essays in the Practice Book about honesty.  Pretty funny, huh? Anyway, I recognized almost all the words, the I didn’t feel struggled with the math at all.  Right after the test, my head felt like it was spinning, but it was still a great feeling.  Your class was a great help and a lot of fun, and I’m definitely making sure my brother takes the class next year.”
-Shlomo G., student
